Photographs by Thomas Florscheutz, with essays by JP Jacob and Christoph Tannert

Thomas Florscheutz won First Prize for New Photography by European Photography magazine in 1987, and was among the first East German photographers to receive international recognition. After including him in Out of Eastern Europe, Jacob introduced Florscheutz to Jeffrey Hoone at Light Works in Syracuse, NY, and to Steven High at the Anderson Art Gallery, Richmond, VA. High had hosted Out of Eastern Europe at the Baxter Art Gallery, Portland, ME. Florscheutz was later invited for a residency at Light Works, and, after High moved on to the Anderson, a one-person exhibition there; Jacob contributed a catalog essay.

Photocurator (*.org) originated in Y2K as a network for photography curators. It was an online portal for communication and produced an annual printed index listing member’s exhibitions and cross-referencing their fields of research. It was terminated in 2006. This iteration (*.me) was launched in 2022. It is a reckoning of its author with his career as a maker and wrangler of images.
